The History of Archbold Stadium
At the time it was built, this historic college football stadium was dubbed as "The greatest athletic arena in America." Oval-shaped Archbold Stadium opened in 1907 on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The original seating capacity was 23,000 and increased to 40,000 in the 1950's. The final game played in the stadium was on November 11, 1978 and Syracuse upset #18 Navy 20-17 in a thriller. Freshman Joe Morris rushed 31 times for 203 yards leading the Orange to victory.
