In 1985, the #2 Sooners and #17 Longhorns met in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. Barry Switzer's Oklahoma team had beaten Minnesota and Kansas State. Fred Akers' Longhorn squad had beaten Missouri, Stanford, and Rice. The game was tied at 7 in the 4th quarter when Patrick Collins took a Troy Aikman pitch and dashed 45 yards for a Sooner touchdown. Oklahoma won 14-7 and went on to win the 1985 National Championship by beating Penn State in the Orange Bowl.
